Ludwig Huber -
Gets GMP Award for Publications in the Area of 'Quality and
Safety of Drugs'
On November 27, Ludwig Huber, worldwide
product marketing manager of Agilent Technologies, received
the "Wallhaeusser" award for his research and publications
on GMP, quality assurance, computer validation and
implementing FDA's 21 CFR Part 11. The winner has been a
selected by a committee of members from the Scientific
Advisory Board of the European Compliance Academy (ECA).
The award has been presented by Oliver
Schmidt, president of conference provider and publisher
Concept Heidelberg, during a validation conference in
Mannheim, Germany. Mr. Schmidt explained the purpose of this
award: "In 1987 we decided to give once a year the Wallhuer
Award to personalities who have promoted the transfer of
knowledge in a special way, e.g. by means of various
publications and presentations. With this award, we want to
honour above all outstanding achievements in the field of
pharmaceutical manufacture, technology, quality assurance
and compliance ". Main criteria for the award are track
records for number and quality of publications in this area.
The award is endowed with Eur 5,000.

The competition for this award typically
include hundreds of scientists and other professionals .
They work in the pharmaceutical industry, but also at public
and private institutes.
Dr. Schuhmacher explained seven main
reasons why Ludwig Huber has been selected for the award
- Focus on computer validation and e-records,
topics that are increasingly important for quality and
safety of drugs
- Takes the time and risk to share his
experience through numerous publications and conference
presentations.
- Always approaches new and burning
topics. Recent example: network qualification
- Helps Agilent and the pharmaceutical
industry to come up with the right "User Requirement
Specifications" for product quality, safety and compliance.
- Advices the industry through
participation in task forces like PDA, GAMP, IVT, ECA.
- Advices regulatory agencies to
prevent that requirements are set too high.
- Provides on-line help through
internet chat groups and free websites through
